TEP MONOROM - ETHER
Made during L'Héritage sacré de l'Apsara d'Angkor, a ballet presented by Tep Monorom at the Théâtre Le Ranelagh in Paris, this series documents the transmission of classical Khmer ballet within the association. The company is led by Chap Chamroeunmina, former prima ballerina of the Royal Ballet of Cambodia, named White Apsara by Princess Norodom Buppha Devi. Heir to the traditions of Angkor, the repertoire relies on extreme precision of movement: each inclination of the hand, each tension of the fingers, corresponds to a codified vocabulary, rigorously passed down through generations.
These photographs are set in a dense darkness where movement emerges in fragments. The light delineates the silhouettes and highlights the meticulous construction of the postures, revealing the discipline and concentration that this dance demands.
At the boundary between documentary and interpretation, the series explores the formal complexity of the gesture while revealing the symbolic and inner dimension that permeates this living tradition.
